lot of things can cause ESD. Or Electro Static Discharge.
Generally just walking can generate a 1000 volts of static charge.
and ESD voltages can go above 10000 volts.
usually from 3000-5000 volts your will feel the discharge.
from 5000-7000 volts, you can see a small spark at discharge.
Above 7000 you may hear the crack of the discharge.
Alcantara, plastics, carpets, clothes, paper all generate and store ESD.
Humidity is another cause, as this will hold and generate end in the air. (Think of a thunderstorm, how it can feel heavy in the air before it happens) This is the humidity changing, and build up of charge in the atmosphere.
ESD is a killer of electronics
This is why in electronics it is so critical to use ESD discharge straps and mats.
A nuclear explosion generates a ESD burst which can wipe out electronics.
Try a rubber mat in the car, to isolate your feet rubbing on the carpet, or attach a discharge lead from the seat fabric to the chassis.
usually its the mats that cause the most, rubber can generate end but to a lesser degree.
can try a car ioniser, that will reduce static build up.
See what works best for you.
