Seat Arona will be built on new MQB platform

Post by Rob » Thu Sep 29, 2016 4:49 pm

The Seat Arona will be one of the first cars and the first crossover to launch on the VW brands new MQB A0 platform.

As such, Seat will get access not only to the new platform first but also the complimentary powertrain, hardware and infotainment systems.

"Seat will have the best, or close to the best, car in the segment," said Luca de Meo, Seat's brand boss. "The platform gives us access to the latest engines, dynamics tuning, safety equipment, infotainment - the list is long.

Great news, it was about time Seat was brought up to the front for tech in the VAG group.

I bet there will be a VW & Skoda-badged version along soon after.

VW have been slow to the market with their crossovers, I honestly expected them to have released something like the Taigun by now.

Anyway, pleased Seat are getting the first shot.

Under the skin, the Arona is based on the same MQB AO platform as the new Ibiza supermini. It measures 4,138mm long, making it a few millimetres longer than the Nissan and Renault. Against the Ibiza, the newcomer is a more noticeable 79mm longer. The Arona’s ride height has been raised by 15mm and the firm claims there is 37mm more headroom in the front than in the Ibiza. A 400-litre boot also makes the Arona one of the most practical cars in its class.
