Eco-mode faulty

Post by Vicros » Sun Mar 21, 2021 1:33 pm

Greetings all,

I’ve been having some weird issue with the eco mode. When I switch eco mode on while driving the gear (DSG) changes to E (for eco) but after a restart of the car the mode is still in Eco but the gear is in D mode.

I’m wondering if more people have this issue and if it’s just a display thing or a functional problem.

Same with sport... Just another "feature" as a dealer would call it 😢

I would have thought that if you select one of the modes that it would stay In that mode until you physically change it, but no, it reverts back to drive (D) by default when you turn off.

I'm now resigned to pressing the Mode button 5 times every time I set off. So stupid - and no sign of a software update to correct it.

It's not a fault just how it's designed on all the cars check the manual as below..

When the engine is switched off it will store the driving profile that was selected when the ignition was turned off. When restarted, the engine and the gearbox will start in their Normal mode. To return the engine and gear to your desired mode, reselect the corresponding driving profile.

Why would it store the profile that was in use if it's going to ignore it when you restart the engine?

OK, so it's a design fault rather than not working as stated in the manual. Still nonsensical & should be changed.

Agree, it's a naff design. But at least it does what it says in the manual so you know it's not a fault

Only ever tried Eco mode twice, didn’t seem to do much, so feel it is pointless gimmick

As car always starts in D use that 99% of the time, occasionally just flick lever back (to S mode) on country roads if I want to overtake, then flick it back again when back to cruising speed. Could live without the mode button.
