Tyres

Post by Stringaa » Sun Jan 13, 2019 3:30 pm

This is just a bit of a rant really, but is anyone else having grip issues with the Pirelli’s that come as standard with most Arona’s?

They’ve been doing my head in the last few months! Such poor traction when pulling away, doesn’t even have to be a wet road! Slightest bit of power and they just spin. It makes it very hard to pull out of junctions with any sort of urgency.

I know they’re obviously summer tyres so this will contribute at this time of year but it’s not even been that cold yet this winter! Haven’t even had a frost yet down here on the south coast! God knows what they’ll be like if we get this cold and snowy weather that’s predicted soon... don’t think I’ll be venturing out!

Yes, the Pirelli P7 summer tyres are poor, many comments in the winter tyres thread.

I too have spun them pulling out of junctions when wet. Didn’t happen until few weeks ago when temperature fell to about +10c. Usually happens near start of journey before they warm up. Try poking them on a cold morning there are virtually solid.

I intend to keep my car for few years and have been mulling getting a winter set, can get some 16 inch alloy rims with good winter tyres for about £600 (can get a medium grade set on steel wheels for about £400-450).

Already made a decision that I won’t start the 2019-20 winter with P7s. I will either be going full winters or all season (if few more become available in required size). I would rather spend money on good tyres rather than slide into something and pay for repairs.

Maybe why they are putting Hankooks on at factory nowadays.

Try check the pressures and take some out if need be

Really? That would make me very happy. I've never liked Pirelli tyres (or Continentals!). My car is due to be built this week so fingers crossed ;)

Mine was delivered in November with Hancook (1.6TDI SE Tech Lux), no issues with traction so far

The 16" are Hankook and the 17" Pirelli I think.

16 inch aren’t sold in UK, I think it is Hankook on 17 inch and Pirelli P7s on 18 inch

Our FR has 17" with P7s. It must be the SE models that have Hankooks.
