Apple Car Play/Android Auto Problems

Hi, I’ve got a 2019 FR Arona, had it for 15 months, very pleased with everything. Recently however it’s developed car play android auto problems, My phones connected via USB and its always worked fine however it’s started randomly disconnecting, at the time I had an android phone so I disconnected and paired with an iPhone and still had the same problem. I’ve also used different USB cables but again not made any difference, problem still persists.
From what I’ve read on this forum this seems to be a common issue, but I can’t find anything that talks about it being fixed, can anyone help please? My car is booked in to a main dealer but from the comments I’ve read I’m not too hopeful.
Is there a fix to this please?
Thank you very much.

Hi, tried as you suggested but I’m afraid that it didn’t work, thanks very much for the suggestion though, much appreciated. I’ll see if anyone else comes up with something. Cheers.

Update, I’ve ordered an Apple certified USB lead and I’m going to try that when it arrives later today, I don’t think that it’ll make any difference but at least it’s something else to try! The only “workaround” I can think of is pairing my phone to a Bluetooth speaker in the car, at least I can listen to Audible.

This whole business seems crazy, I can’t believe why main dealers appear to be quite happy to say that it can’t be fixed, or find the problem!

Thanks very much for this, it’s pretty much what I did to pair up when I first got the car and it worked fine for well over a year but of late it’s started playing up where it connects fine and then for no apparent reason disconnects. Sometimes if I unplug the usb lead and then plug it back in again it reconnects and works for maybe 10/15 mins and then disconnects again, sometimes it flatly refuses to reconnect and I can’t use it for the rest of the journey. Occasionally I can drive for say 30 minutes and it works fine, but that is only the odd time, mostly it just carries on disconnecting.
I am booked in at a main Seat dealer in a couple of weeks so I’ll see what happens then.
Thanks again for your help.

Apple Car Play etc (update) The problem seems as though it maybe sorted. I took advice about getting Apple Certified usb leads and have been using this for the last week or so, and it has been fine, car play works perfectly. My Arona was booked in at a main Seat dealer for this Friday so I’ve discussed it with them and rescheduled the appointment to early January just in case this is “a false dawn!” The person at Seat did actually say that he wasn’t surprised, a lot of people buy cheap leads but they’re just not up to the job. He said that they always use proper Apple leads when testing, that might be why some people are having this problem but miraculously corrects when going to a dealer!

Many thanks for everyones input and I’ll keep you informed.

Thanks for this, I really wasn’t aware of the difference in leads/cables etc, just “assumed” - which really is a dangerous think to do! I’ve now been educated and I hope that others who’ve experienced this problem will now know, use decent leads, there is a difference!

I’m going to try a new lead to connect my Motorola tomorrow to use Android Auto, it will be interesting to see how that goes, that’s why I’ve not cancelled my main dealer appointment, just postponed it so I can see what happens. All I’ll say at the moment is that it looks hopeful but no more than that. There appears to be too many others out there experiencing similar problems. I’ll see how the new lead goes with Android Auto and do another update.

Android Auto Update:- Disconnected iPhone and went back to my Android Motorola, set it up with my new (proper) usb lead and it’s worked fine today, all apps, Audible, Waze, telephone etc., was only a relatively short journey but so far so good. I’m still not totally convinced that this is a cure but fingers crossed. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

Hi, thanks for your comments, I’m all good now, it seemed that my problem was basically using charging cables instead of proper data cable. Also I’ve now gone wireless, bought an MSXTTLY adapter from Amazon and it works brilliantly. Thanks again for your comments.
